Who We Are
Core Values

How we will behave along the way.

1. We believe that we are called to be real before God and others.
This relates to authenticity... we want to be honest, open and vulnerable in our relationship with God as well as our fellow brothers and sisters.

2. We believe that God's truth experienced in a creative and culturally relevant way transforms lives.
You could shorten this to "God's truth transforms lives". That is the primary principle at work here. However, we also believe that when God's truth is presented in a culturally relevant way it has the opportunity to be even more transformational. Furthermore, when it is experienced, it has even more power.

3. We believe that the whole of human life is a spiritual activity.
There is no sacred/secular dichotomy in life. Everything we do, think, say and believe has spiritual significance.

4. We believe all members of Christ's body are uniquely designed for ministry in the church and in the community.
We are all given spiritual gifts, unique personalities and talents to do ministry. That ministry takes place both inside and outside of the church.

5. We value participation of the body over presentation to the body.
We want people to experience God and his truth through participation. The opposite of participation would be presentation. So whenever possible, instead of just telling people about God, we want them to experience Him. A good example would be that instead of just singing a performance song about God (presentation), we want them to join in singing songs to God (participation). That doesn't mean that we never sing songs as performance/ presentational pieces, it just means that the majority of what we do will be participational. Another illustration would be teaching. Teaching is a very presentational element. However, we strive to make teaching participational whenever possible.

6. We believe God desires excellence in all that we do.
Pretty simple. We are called to give all that we have to God as an act of worship. That means if you are a banker, a part of "offering your body as a living sacrifice" (Romans 12:1) is to do your job with as much excellence as you can. A good definition of excellence: doing the best you can with what you have every chance you get. (also 1 Cor 10:31)

7. We believe the most effective and rewarding ministry takes place in team.
This is a reference to team ministry. We believe that when we work in teams to accomplish ministry, we are more effective.

8. We believe the church is to be made up of diverse people who are unified in Christ.
We believe in racial, ethnic and social diversity. We would love to see that happen at The Grove. However, we realize that live in an area (Northwest Arkansas) that isn't very diverse. Nonetheless, we seek to be a church that welcomes people who come from a wide range of diverse racial, ethnic and social backgrounds. We also believe that this is only possible through the unifying work of Christ in our midst.

9. We believe that both corporate and personal worship is vital to the body of Christ.
Pretty simple. We believe that there is one time we should worship... always. So, basically we break this down into corporate gatherings (when we all gather together in worship services) and personal times (this includes intentional times of personal worship and offering everything we do as an act of worship).

10. We believe that a healthy church consists of healthy people.
We want our church to be a place of spiritual, emotional and physical health. We won't be very healthy as a church if our people are unhealthy.
